Catholic Homeschooling in Maine

How to Homeschool in Maine

There are two ways to comply with the homeschool laws in Maine:

1. File a notice of intent under Main’s home instruction option and then send an annual letter by September 1st of each year. This letter should include a year-end assessment and a statement that you intend to continue homeschooling.

2. Join with other homeschool parents to function as a private school.

There are state-mandated subjects which must be taught. Compulsory school ages for Maine are 6-17.

Maine parents may choose to educate their children at home. Parents take full responsibility for the child while providing home instruction—they legally direct the child’s education by choosing the curriculum, facilitating the process and determining academic needs. Home instruction is funded exclusively by the parent.
