How to Homeschool in Indiana
In Indiana, homeschools are considered nonaccredited private schools and thus, fall under the laws regulating private schools. Take these steps to homeschool legally in Indiana:
1. Provide instruction equivalent to public schools and utilize the English language for all instruction.Â
2. Teach for the required 180 days of instruction.Â
3. Keep attendance records and provide upon request.
4. Provide the number of children and grade level you are teaching if requested.Â
No enrollment is necessary and there are no mandatory subjects to be taught.Â
Indiana Department of Education Home School Information
Parents who choose to home educate their children may report their homeschool’s enrollment to the Indiana Department of Education (IC 20-33-2-21). Reporting homeschool enrollment (registering a homeschool) is not required in Indiana.
