St. Maximilian Kolbe worked during his life to conquer the world for Christ through Mary Immaculate. He died in the Auschwitz concentration camp in German-occupied Poland when he volunteered to take the place of another man who was condemned to die at the hands of the Nazi captors. What is most remarkable about this act was that it was not a case of him laying down his life for his friend. The man whose place he took was a stranger to him.
From his acceptance of both a white crown of purity and a red crown of martyrdom from the Blessed Virgin to his final act of love, St. Maximilian Kolbe proved his virtue and love for Christ with his courage and faith.
