Fr. Daniel Ciucci’s Homily for the RMCHEC

Highlights from Fr. Daniel Cicci’s homily at the Mass for the Rocky Mountain Catholic Home Educators Conference in Denver, CO, 2023:

  • The beauty of what has been entrusted to you is you are taking seriously the fact that you are the primary educators of your children in ways of truth, morals, and virtue.

  • Will your kid look back, and was mom happy — reading on the couch, unloading the dishwasher, bringing in groceries, teaching times tables at the kitchen table?

  • Human excellence is necessary to impart truth, otherwise you are just doing information download.

  • If you take seriously your call to educate your children, you will make Satan extraordinarily upset because ignorance is one of the ways he can engage his attack plan.

  • If you take education seriously, it’s not just truth that you seek. It’s excellence in human formation. Do you demonstrate human excellence?

  • Sometimes maybe less teaching with greater joy has more spiritual output.

  • Part of Satan’s tactic to is get us not to use our own super powers, to get us not to reject lies, to get us to fall to comparison, to get us to interiorly disengage and exteriorly keep going so we look like we’re fine. But then there’s not the overflowing joy.

  • So, whether in the moral life, whether in the teaching life whether in the home life, whether there’s cake smeared up and down your fridge right now or not, we need to move into an era of less reaction and more profiting by the grace of Jesus through any circumstance, especially that of humility.

  • Don’t fall to comparison. That’s Satan getting you to lay aside your mother’s super powers, to paralyze you and freeze you up so that you miss a truth. Maybe not a truth on teaching technique, but a truth of the heart that you need to take home that will be more effective than what any of the vendors can give here today.

  • Let Jesus be at work. He wants to move through your motherhood, through your fatherhood, to draw your children to heaven, and to bring as many people with them as possible.

  • What you do is incredibly beautiful … Jesus is very proud of any parent that takes seriously motherhood, fatherhood, truth, and love.
