The Solemnity of the Ascension occurs 40 days after the Resurrection. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, but many dioceses transfer the feast day to the following Sunday.
This feast is a lovely one to celebrate in your homeschool. There are lots of crafts and activities you can do, some fun foods to make, and these books which can help your children understand and love this special commemoration.
In our home, we always talked about how the Church gives us the opportunity to walk along in some of the events from the life of Jesus in real time. The 40 days we wait to celebrate this feast day was the real time that the Apostles and Our Lady got to spend with Jesus after he rose on Easter.
These 40 days mirror the 40 days of Lent. But whereas Lent found us doing penance and waiting for Easter, the 40 days from Easter to the Ascension has us celebrating and feasting in joy and thanksgiving.
