How to Homeschool in Idaho
Idaho is a very easy state to start homeschooling in. There are minimal regulations, making it easy to comply with the laws regulating home education. You can start homeschooling in Idaho with just two easy steps:
1. Select an instructor for your child. This can be you, a family member, or even an unrelated person.Â
2. Teach the required subjects. There are no stipulated specific subjects that must be taught, so you have the freedom to choose what is best for your children. In general, you should teach common subjects such as reading and math and any others that are typical in the public schools in Idaho.
That’s it! There are no teacher qualifications, assessment or vaccine requirements, and no notification is needed.Â

Home Schooling is education directed by the parent/guardian. Since Idaho does not regulate or monitor home school education, it is up to the parent/guardian to select the curriculum they wish to use. There is no registration or sign up procedure required and the state of Idaho does not have a set curriculum to be followed for home school education. All costs associated with home schooling are the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Coeur d’Alene, ID
Cabrini Co-op is a homeschool hybrid that meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They offer small classes for students, daily Mass, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, extracurricular activities, and joyful learning. Curriculum includes math, language arts, memory work, writing, history, science, literature and poetry, art, performing arts, and field trips.
St. Gemma’s Homeschool Co-op
Boise, Treasure Valley, ID
This Boise co-op offers enrichment and support for homeschooling families, with opportunities for friendship and learning in the Treasure Valley of Idaho through a Catholic perspective. They meet three Fridays a month in Boise.
St. Michael the Archangel Co-op
Coeur d’Alene, ID
St. Michael the Archangel Homeschool Co-op is dedicated to the principle of excellence in Catholic homeschool instruction through the utilization of a co-op approach. This co-op has a group of both parent teachers and professional teachers with extensive knowledge of the subjects they teach. They often pray together in the community and learn facts and discuss matters related to the Catholic faith in culture and history.

Sports for Homeschoolers
Public School Access for Homeschoolers in Idaho
Any homeschooled student is allowed to dual enroll in a public school to participate in any public school program, including nonacademic activities and post-secondary programs. Homeschool students seeking to participate in nonacademic public school activities that have an academic qualification must have a standardized test or portfolio showing average performance or performance at the student’s grade level. A test or portfolio makes the student eligible (or ineligible) for the current school year and the following school year. Homeschool students are not required to take a class at a public school to participate in the school’s sports program.
