The Cardinal Newman Society, publisher of the Newman Guide to Catholic Colleges & Universities, holds an annual scholarship contest for high school seniors. Each year, one winner receives $5,000 toward the educational costs of attending one of the colleges or universities recommended in The Newman Guide. This scholarship is sponsored by Joseph and Ann Guiffre.
Each year, the Newman Society picks an essay topic. Essays are judged on writing skill and on should be written with appreciate for faithful Catholic education.
There are several colleges that will supplement this scholarship award with an additional $5,000 per year, for a total of $20,000 over four years. These colleges are:
- Ave Maria University
- Belmont Abbey College
- Benedictine College
- Christendom College
- Franciscan University of Steubenville
- Holy Apostles
- John Paul the Great Catholic University
- Magdalen College of the Liberal Arts
- University of Dallas
- University of Mary
- University of St. Thomas
- Wyoming Catholic College
- Campion College
- Holy Angel University
- Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College
Scholarship applicants must be high school students and legal residents of the United States. Applicants must sign up for The Newman Society’s Recruit Me program and should be planning on attending one of the Newman Guide colleges.
